We could have marked Valentine's Day with standard sappy, happy, crappy fare that really makes you want to puke but we reckoned that you have probably already had a nostril full of that by now.

For all those reasons and more, we decided to bring you this 19th century watercolour by Frederick William Burton, depicting a scene from an even earlier Danish ballad concerning the ill-fated lovers, Hellelil and Hildebrand.
"Their tragic affair results in the slaying of seven of Hellelil's brothers by Hildebrand, and his own death at the hand of the youngest."

Now ain't that love?

For all you ill-fated lovers out there, give yourselves a break this Valentine's Day. Relax in front of your TV. Tune in to the Horror Channel. If they're not showing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, maybe you could rent it out somewhere.
